If you are like me, this year is your first time hearing about Juneteenth. What is Juneteenth and why is it significant to the Black struggle? In June of 1863 the finale action was taken to bring about full Emancipation Proclamation (Freedom of enslaved Blacks in America) sign into Law by then President Abraham Lincoln. This Day June 19 deserve and should be recognized by all Blacks in America as a special day. 47 States and the District of Columbia recognize Juneteenth as either a State holiday or ceremonial day, a day of observance. Juneteenth has been celebrated under many names, Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, and Cel-Liberation Day, Second Independence Day, and Emancipation Day to name just a few.
